I'm from a small town in Illinois myself. I live on the westside in Indy now and have a lot of pros and cons. Pros: Big city so lots to do The canal Free events City life of traffic Healthcare Jobs. Cons: Traffic especially the 5pm Rent Police Size of Indianapolis. I feel like the cons deserve an explanation though. I think they're both closer to/on the north side, but I think they're fairly priced and he has always looked fresh after a cut from either place. I second Valor Barbers and Brews. Great place, atmosphere, and the barbers there are top notch. Can attest to 459.The Cake Bake Shop Enjoy a cup of afternoon tea and a slice of cake at one of the most Instagrammable places in Indianapolis. The Cake Bake Shop serves elegant cakes, pies, and pastries, as well...I'm probably a little biased coming from a progressive church, but I think the Indy religious scene is fairly sane and reasonable. As you start heading towards the suburbs it definitely turns into evangelical Trump country and suburban republicans. Indy can be pretty diverse, it all depends on where you choose to live.I'd suggest Sur La Table in Carmel. They offer cooking classes that are $79 to $99 a person depending on the menu. It's a retail chain but I visited last year and had an amazing experience. Bonus that the amount of food the dinner made easily lasted three meals (they let you take home the leftovers). 23.Indianapolis is safe if you are a regular non-criminal person.
